Who we are

Every company, community and crew is made of people who care about what they do. We take the time to listen, earn trust and find what actually matters, then we make the film.

How we work

Four steps, every time

  1. 01
An educator speaking during an interview in a school library

    Listen

We start with your people, not a script.

    What you bring
Your goals, your audience and the people who know the work
    What you get
A written definition of success and a story direction
    What’s inside

A discovery conversation about vision, audience, message and tone, including language, culture and anything that should or shouldn’t be shown.

  2. 02
Imperial's Norman Wells plant lit up at night

    Earn trust

We take the time a story needs before the camera comes out.

    What you bring
Introductions to the people involved, and site access
    What you get
A shot plan, interview questions and a schedule that works around shifts, weather and travel
    What’s inside

Safety orientation where needed, a light-footprint plan, and options for anyone who’d rather not be on camera.

  3. 03
A Canoe North guide talking in camp on the Keele River

    Find what matters

We look for the true line, not the polished one.

    What you bring
A little patience on the day
    What you get
Real interviews, real moments and the context around them
    What’s inside

A two-person crew filming interviews, follow-along moments, drone and stills, with as little disruption as possible.

  4. 04
Aerial view of boreal forest below the Mackenzie Mountains

    Craft the film

We cut it with care, and we hit the deadline.

    What you bring
    Feedback at two review points
    What you get
The finished film, cut-downs for social, and photos if included
    What’s inside

Editing, colour, sound mix, licensed music, captions and two review rounds, delivered in the formats you need.

It looks great. I am so happy to see that there is a production company in the Sahtu.

Move the sliders to your own numbers. It is the same maths we walk through together when we talk.

$240,000/year
$20,000 a month

That is the twelve-month value of 4 more people a month at $5,000 each. One film, doing that work again and again.

Founder

Hi, I’m Josh.

I started Breaking Ice in Norman Wells in 2022 with very little gear and a lot of curiosity. What I noticed early was that the people here had incredible stories and almost nowhere to tell them properly.

Most of my work is still the same thing: spending time with people, earning their trust, and making something they’re proud to share. If that’s what you need, I’d love to hear about it.
